The new Kaptain acoustic glasses are manufactured with different glass thicknesses and a special polymer layer, placed between the glass panes, specially designed to interrupt and absorb sound waves and reduce noise pollution.
In general, using a combination of panes in different glass thicknesses reduces vibration and noise, so less sound passes through the window. In tests carried out in Germany, Kaptain double-glazed acoustic windows reduce sound by 40dB and when applied against 80dB of dynamic road traffic noise, they insulate to a level of 40dB, which is equivalent to the sound of speaking in a library.
Noise reduction can also be expressed in terms of distance.
Every 3dB noise reduction doubles the distance. Kaptain windows reduce sound by 33dB, but Kaptain windows with acoustic glazing reduce noise by 40dB.
This further 7dB reduction means that if a road was 20m from your house, with Kaptain acoustic windows you will make the sound appear as if the road is 80m away - like 4 times further away.
At Kaptain we have certified in Germany windows that reduce sound up to 47dB.
